MSA-0011 S Gundam

S Gundam

The S Gundam, or "Superior Gundam," is a prototype transformable mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics under the codename Iota Gundam. It was developed at roughly the same time as the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam and uses many of the same concepts, such as the core block system and the ability to separate into three parts. The highly modular design of the S Gundam, however, allows it to adapt to different missions using extra weapons and optional equipment. From the very beginning, this machine was developed as a complete weapons system based around the mobile suit and its core block.

This high performance machine is powered by four large generators installed in its shoulders and legs. The wing units on its shoulders and tail stabilator on its back can be used for AMBAC maneuvering. When the S Gundam separates into three parts, each part has its own cockpit and can function as an independent fighter craft. In mobile suit form, the cockpits of the other two machines are connected to the core block, and they can all be ejected together in case of emergency. This combined core block is even capable of atmospheric entry and limited flight.

The S Gundam is equipped with a quasi-psycommu system which allows non-newtype pilots to operate remote weapons such as the INCOM installed in its head. This incom is a wire-guided weapon whose beam gun can be fired three times before it must return to the mobile suit to recharge. The S Gundam’s standard armament also includes beam cannons on its backpack and thighs. The thigh beam cannons can be replaced by a powerful beam smartgun and an energy supply support unit, which connect in front of the mobile suit when firing.

Despite its impressive capabilities, the Earth Federation Forces decide not to adopt the S Gundam, and only four prototype units are completed. During the Pezun Rebellion one prototype machine is assigned to Taskforce Alpha, the Federation Forces unit created to suppress the rebellion. This machine is also equipped with an experimental artificial intelligence system known as "ALICE," whose full capabilities remain unknown. Ensign Ryu Roots pilots the S Gundam throughout the Pezun Rebellion until it is destroyed during atmospheric entry on April 4, U.C. 0088.

G Attacker An attack fighter formed from the upper body, or A parts, of the S Gundam. The G-Attacker has its own cockpit and is capable of independent flight. In addition to its two beam cannons, the G-Attacker can also be equipped with four vulcan guns in its nose, which serves as the S Gundam’s tail stabilator. During the final stage of the Pezun Rebellion, when Taskforce Alpha is short of mobile suits, the S Gundam is separated into its component parts and former FAZZ pilot Shin Crypt is assigned to operate the G-Attacker.

G Bomber A fighter craft formed from the lower body, or B parts, of the S Gundam. Unlike the Core Base of the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam, it has its own cockpit and is capable of independent flight. The G-Bomber can be equipped with two beam cannons or a beam smartgun, and its wings have four hardpoints for carrying missiles, giving it tremendous firepower. During the final stage of the Pezun Rebellion, when Taskforce Alpha is short of mobile suits, the S Gundam is separated into its component parts and former Zeta Plus pilot Tex West is assigned to operate the G-Bomber.
